An operator independent Toll Audit system is provided at toll plazas by comparing traffic volumes and classification at a toll plaza to autonomous classifiers downstream from a facility. In order to verify the performance of reference classifier, two RAKTEL axle classifiers operate in tandem with each other normally 30m apart. The tracking of these two classifiers ensure that a high degree of confidence can be attached to the integrity of the recorded data.

This system is currently a requirement of the South African National Roads Agency at all their plazas.

The Mikros RAKTEL 8000 is used as the front end processor for the pre-selection in screening lanes leading into weigh control stations. The RAKTEL can also be used to monitor and flag evading truck traffic.

The RAKTEL 8000 is also deployed to monitor the effect a weigh station has on escape routes.

The flexible nature of the RAKTEL makes it ideally suited for monitoring and overload control.

Since the inception of the Arrive Alive Road Safety Campaign Mikros has been providing real time traffic information gathered from the national network of traffic monitoring stations.

During holiday periods such as Easter weekends the traffic information is provided to the media as a public service.

Over the years clear traffic patters have been observed and these patterns are used to predict traffic flow conditions on holiday routes.

By adding a violation "flash" to the traffic monitoring sites speeding can be dramatically reduces at these sites. By recording the number of  speed violation incidents and the individual speed of all vehicles comprehensive management information is always available on the effectiveness of this speed calming method.

Mikros is active in the ITS field by providing the systems that monitor traffic and transmit the information in real time to remote control centers.

Mikros provides systems and protocols that transmits traffic information over Wide Area Networks (fiber and or wireless).

At the control center the data is automatically verified and presented on real time graphical displays.
